We have long needed a handy man in this building. Someone we could call on for odd jobs. I have asked the building manager periodically over the years and always got a non answer. Today I had yet another job that I didn't want to wait on and so I asked again. This time the manager handed me a business card for Steve's Home Services.

I called and got voicemail and left a message that I would send email. I did and got a reply very quickly (not robo reply) that Steve would be in touch very shortly. He just called and sounded very good and nice and he's coming on Monday morning. I so hope he works out.

Sheri, the interior designer, has a guy but it's going to be months before they are here to do stuff and really I'm not wild about shifting their focus. There are a handful of little things around that I would love to have done.

But the Monday morning job is the retractable clothesline for the bathtub. I did not want that kind. I didn't want to mount anything on the wall but my other solutions are not working out worth a damn so I finally caved and got one. I could probably install it myself. But I have these visions of hanging the first wet towel and having giant chunks of wall come down into the tub.

So here's hoping old Steve is good, nice to be around, reasonably priced and willing.

Swimming was good. It was not cough free but since I got back, I've barely coughed at all. I've been sitting mostly so not a real good test but my breathing has been easier this afternoon than this morning. When I'm not coughing and/or struggling to breathe, I feel fine. But then I'll forget and take a deep breath and it all starts again.

And speaking of stuff I forget, I keep forgetting to wear a coat or jacket when I leave this house. If I'm going on foot, I seem to be able to remember, but if I'm going in the car, I open the front door, which leads to the hallway and it isn't until I get downstairs to the garage that I am 'doh! it's winter, you fruicake!'. Maybe I should stash a jacket in the car until I get the hang of how to do it correctly.

Which reminds me, I need bread. I think I'll put on a jacket and walk down the street to Grand Central Bakery and see if they have any left.
