It's lunchtime and that's LJ time for me!

davmoo, I installed a little thing on Mom's computer that sends any IP address change to a system that then turns it into a domain name for me. It chases down the IP address and 'translates' it for me. Prior to my putting it onto her computer, I swear her IP address was changing every freakin' hour. Now that I want to test and make sure that this gizmo will actually report the change, she's had the same stupid IP for the last 16 hours! Computers really think they are soooo smart. And they love to laugh in your face.

Today is a library day - I have two books that have to go back before tomorrow and, fortunately, I tossed them into the backpack today. It's so easy to get off the bus, drop them off and walk the rest of the way home.

This morning when I got onto the bus I realized that tomorrow I'm going to have to drive myownself to work. The rest of the world is taking tomorrow off for New Years. Microsoft is taking Monday off. So I work tomorrow. But, the bus is on the Sunday schedule which means I'd be showing up at work just in time for brunch.

No thanks, I'll drive. It will be a great day to drive traffic wise. Too great, really. Because now I'll be able to conveniently stop and shop on the way home. Karen says that Top Foods (just down the street from here) has their Brach's Fluffy Nugat peppermint Christmas tree candy on sale. I hope they have some left. And I want to stop at the new huge Joanne's craft/sewing/knitting/everything store and check it out. See, driving my car to work is generally more costly than just gas and car usage. The $4 a day I spend on the bus is a steal in comparison.

There is a chance - very slim - that we might get snow Saturday and/or Sunday. If anyone asks, please tell them that that would be fine with me.

Date: 2004-12-31 03:10 am (UTC)When the local system was owned by Insight Communications, I had the same IP for almost two years. Then Comcast got the local system in a trade, and during a two week period my IP changed 9 times, sometimes after as little as 30 minutes. Since I need to access my machines remotely, that's what caused me to set something up with DynDNS in the first place. The night I sat it up, my IP changed one time. It has not changed again in three months.

p.s. After hearing your story, I'm convinced now that she'll have the same IP address until the day she dies - at least I've quit checking every 30 minutes.
