I did remember to drive my car today instead of walking to the bus stop. I was even alert enough to realize that I don't need the whole freakin' backpack, just my little purse and I'm out the door.

20 minutes later, I'm parked outside my building at work and realize my fucking card key is with my bus pass which is in my FUCKING BACKPACK!!!

And today, of all days... 6:05 a.m. there is not only not a soul around, there is maybe one other car in the lot and that one looks like it's been here forever. The café people - the 4 or fewer who are working today - probably won't get here much before 7. I am fucked.

Just as I was ready to get back in the car and go back home - and knowing that I probably don't have enough gas to do that - a guy drives up. He was really nice and he let me in.

I never forget my card key. At IBM we called them badges. I've had to have one to get into work since 1982. I laugh (not kindly) that people who forget their card keys. Just yesterday, Lisa had to use mine when she went to run an errand because she forgot hers, again.

Usually, around here, at least after 8 a.m., there is a receptionist in every building who will let you in and give you a sticker tag that says "I am the idiot who could not even remember to bring my card key to work today." But there are no receptionists this week. I would have been good and truly fucked.

On the up side, this building is a shell. Unlike many places I have worked, I do not have to have my card key to pee or eat - just to get in the building. So I'm good until it's time to go home shopping.

Note to self: First stop... Gas. The last time I got gas was at the gas station on the corner by my house. The new hotel they are building where they tore that place down is underway. And I need to find a new gas station!

You forgot your card key? And somebody let you in?

I forgot mine once at Symbol, I walked into security and they just let me in. So much for security, either that or the list of 6'3" 270 pound engineers is quite short and they all recognize me. But I could have quit.

I used to work in the defence industry, nobody went anywhere without their badge. All visitors were escorted, everywhere, even to the bathroom. We had wandering security guards who would remove unattended classified documents or visitors. I never got a security violation in the eight years I worked there.

Another "Senior Moment" - I forget my park-card two or three times a year.
