one fix in
Jan. 1st, 2005 07:10 pmI shudda listened to
davmoo more carefully the first time. I finally have Mom's VNC setup working fine. When he first told me about his experience with DynDNS.org, he said he used a little client called DynDNS Updater. There are about a bazzillion different clients on the DynDNS website and, for some reason, I picked another one. When I couldn't get it to work, I went back to David's original comment and read it carefully...
Downloaded the right client. Set it up on Mom's computer and, for once, the IP changed when I wanted it to and everything worked just like it should. Whew. And thank you, David!
My success with getting the Run icon to spawn the event window was shortlived. But I've decided to worry about that another day. However, I still can't get my photos to upload via email to buzznet. Very strange. I sent them an email but as a test, I did manually load one from this morning. I found this little tableau in the next block from my front door.

Date: 2005-01-02 09:44 am (UTC)I learned about VNC and DynDNS and all that about the time I had to make the third hundred mile (one way) drive to my mother's to fix a problem with her computer. Now when she has a problem, she calls me from her cellphone to tell me she's online, and I open a bottle of beer and run a program from home to fix it. And it works equally well to show her how to do stuff. It can't get better than that :-)
