This morning I took a Brit (albeit one who, except for the odd word here and there, sounds for all the world like she was born and raised in Iowa) to our crumpet shop where we actually saw them being made on the griddle and had ours with real fruit jam and tea (well, I had coffee).

[livejournal.com profile] cathboblet and I had a wonderful time wandering all over every where. It was fun to show her my little nooks and crannies of places. We went through the market and saw the fish throwing guys who weren't throwing yet, however. And wandered down to the water front and then back up through Belltown. We saw a line - queue, if you will, of people outside a yarn shop! (We had actually already heard about the yarn sale there while we were at the crumpet shop. Those of you who do not knit - and I suspect there may be one or two of you left - are really not in with the in crowd.) We saw snow, too! We each saw a couple of flakes. It was very exciting.

And [livejournal.com profile] cathboblet got a latte at THE original Starbucks. I have the proof. (It's a thumbnail - click to get more [livejournal.com profile] cathboblet.)

When I left her off at her hotel it started to rain so I did the smart thing and ducked into Bed, Bath and Beyond where I snagged a pair of bright lime green pillow cases, a new frying pan and a lava lamp night light. On the way to the bus stop, I went through Bon Macy and got some new socks and a pair of earrings and then I followed the football people all the way home.

What a great Saturday morning!

edit: why didn't you people tell me that the picture didn't upload??!!!! Geesh.

I can answer the rest when I get home to Iowa, but the first part I can tell you now before I head to the party --

We all met because of the internet. In 1994 an email mailing list got off the ground for people who were interested in the show 'Friends' -- and it was called The Friends' List. People had a habit of getting off-topic, and certain folks thought that Wasn't On, so in February 1995 the Friends' Zone was born -- an offshoot of Friends-L on which (as someone once put it) the subject was our lives with 'Friends' as the longest running thread.

People were grouped together in various locals -- a bunch of us around Chicago, around Atlanta, around NYC, around DC, around Austin, and around the Bay area in CA. People started to meet up. And then in 1996 there was the first Zone ExtravaGANza where people flew in from all over the country to Chicago.

The Zone still exists, but most of us are no longer subscribed. But the friendships we made there are still going strong -- and of people on YOUR friends list, I know hockey_ho, keelamonster, tinman, angelamermaid, and Lisa (who runs Photo-A-Day) from the Zone. We're a tenacious bunch :)

It sure did look cold at the Seattle playoff game today! Every time they did an aerial shot I found myself wondering..."which building is Susan's?"

Too bad the Seahawks lost : /
