Designer Part Deux

Ok, So plan A never really got out of the shoot except I did get a good query written. Now it is time for Plan B. I have combed the websites of the International Interior Design Association, the Northwest Society of Interior Designers, the American Society of Interior Designers and the Seattle Design Center.

First off, there's a lot of web work out that that desperately needs to be done. In many cases, whole websites need to be created. In some other cases, new graphics and some spell check would be a huge help and in other cases, the current webmaster should be drawn, quartered and tortured (even as redundant as that may be) while the rest of us get to watch.

But, I digress.

The Seattle Design Center seems to hold the most promise, I guess, for me. I actually know where it is and it is conveniently located with easy parking. They are open from 1-5 weekdays and their website invites me to come visit. I can leave here on maybe one of my early Fridays and get there by 3:45 probably.

Time to email them, I guess.

But alas, from this distance, I don't think it would work out in any case. What's your budget, anyway?

yeah, yeah... I thought about that after my reply. I don't know your taste or style but I do trust you. The distance is the killer. I could see getting you out here and the up side would be that it might shorten the whole cycle since you wouldn't be distracted but on the other hand you wouldn't have any idea where to find big brutes to move shit or the best places to score upolstry etc.

And, budget, you know... I really am kind of punting here. I'm thinking $25,000 but a lot depends on scope. Am I going to replace appliances? Have furniture custom made? etc. etc. I just really don't know.

Too much, you think? I need all new carpet. I need every wall painted. I need a lot of new furniture. Probably some built ins. Plus the cost of labor doing stuff and moving stuff and putting stuff back. Maybe a little electrical - moving wires around? And the designer's charges. Still too much? Tell me.

I just got an email back from the design center and they are going to have a designer named Francie call me.

Maybe I should say $15,000? Tell me!

Start saying 8, 10 max, but budget 25.

I mean, unless you want to import your furniture from Italy like I ended up doing. Then mention 12, but absolutely no more! Of course, budget for way more.

I want my furniture imported from Ikea!!! Actually that's more a statement of look than a statement of price but I get your drift and... Thank you!

My budget is, oh, I dunno $8K? $10K max.

Don't be scared. I won't buy furniture from IKEA, I promise. That's why I'm getting a designer first! We don't have Copenhagen stores but we do have a good number of stores that carry nice modern furniture. I promise, no particle board furniture. At least not without your permission first.
