Designer Saga: Chapter 1. Section 3. Subsection iii
When last we left our story, I had gotten an email from the design center saying that Francie had been selected for me and that I should send my phone number so Francie could call me for more details. I did. 24 hours later, Francie called me. I had one hour today when I was not available to talk - from 2-3. Good old Francie called me at 2:20.
And the message she left did nothing to make me feel better about the process. First off she said that she was calling from 'the office' but leaving 'the office' for an appointment shortly. I have no other clues about 'the office' or it's value to the process.
Then she went on to say that she could meet me at the Design Center and that THE most convenient time for her would be Tuesday, January 25. She hoped that was ok with me because - and here she repeated it again - it would be the easiest for her.
Ok, folks. I know I am demanding. I have high expectations of people - especially people I might be soon paying a lot of money to. One of those expectations is that this person might just pretend I am a customer and not just put here on this earth for their convenience! What the fuck?!!! (And when I extrapolate and think about this woman in charge of tearing my house apart and putting it back together the idea that she is most interested in what is easiest and most convenient for her strikes terror in my heart.)
I called her back at 3 and left a voice mail saying that I was really very clueless about the whole process but that I certainly did not want to wait 2 weeks to have an initial conversation. In voice just dripping with nice I said that if she were too busy that I certainly understood and no harm no foul. But if she were still interested and could understand my interest in not waiting two weeks she should feel free to get in touch.
Good Golly Miss Molly.
I put my thinking cap back on and this afternoon sent a note to my friend, Scott, who lives in the unit below me. He has the most amazing taste himself and is a realtor who specializes in condos and downtown condos. I asked him what he would advise a client who just moved into town and needed design help. At least I know he'll answer cause he knows if he doesn't it's broomstick bouncing on the kitchen floor until he does.
I cannot believe how hard this part is.

Windows XP annoys the living Flash out of me for that and all the chirpy pop-up bubble help. Like: "There are unused icons on the desktop." .. Maybe that's because I want them there. And the colors... can they please stop screwing with the user interface and moving things around? At least someone had the decency to include buttons to undo many of the UI "improvements."
Francie sounds like a real piece of work. I predict you'll receive another voice mail from her, identical to the first, as if she had never contacted you before. It's more convenient for her that way.
