At work, I use Outlook Express to check my personal mail (I use Outlook for work mail). I've been doing this since forever - no matter what company, no matter what network - never had it fail... until today. The Microsoft network won't let me at port 110 which is what I need to check the mail. (It won't let Outlook Express get there and I can't even telnet - which I tried just to check the port access.) It's the strangest thing.

I can get to my mail via a web reader but it's just not the same. I could probably call Helpdesk but since my access to my personal mail has zippo to do with my job, I think that would be kind of frivolous. I'll just suffer. But, lucky for all of you... Not in silence.

Did your machine get upgraded to SP2 this weekend or something? It switches on all kinds of port blocking.

My company goes through periods of deciding that the regular mail shouldn't be able to get out so they shut off the server. But the local IT guys find it convenient so they switch it back on again.

Has your ISP changed ports for mail? (Mine reported SBC and Yahoo shut down the standard SMTP port 25 for outgoing; so they've enabled another -- 587, I think)
