Ridiculous work around...
Jan. 7th, 2012 01:01 pmMy internet connection continues to leave the building every 5-6 hours. Like clockwork. Still no clue if it's Comcast, my modem or my router. My next step, I think, is to try a router replacement. But, 8 port routers don't grow on local retail shelves so I'll have to Amazon it. Which is fine but means it won't get done before I leave for CES.
I want a fix now so I went to good old Radio Shack. For $20 I picked up an electrical socket with a timer that offers 20 sets of on/off. I set it to turn the router off every 4 hours and back on a minute later. I can handle a minute's downtime, especially when I know it's coming. I rarely use VPN for work anymore as my computer now directly access the work network so it won't be hosing that up. I feel better now.
When I get back, I'll see about replacing the router. If the problem persists, then I'll have more info for Comcast.
I really like my D-link 8 port router and I'm not thrilled with the other 8 port choices nor with the 4 port+switch option... Something to put on my CES Keep An Eye Out For list...

Today is not a great breathing day. It's better now than it was this morning. Swimming was ok. I was coughing some but I managed to get through at full force for most of it. I slacked off a little at the end. I was glad I went because it will be 6 days before I get back in a pool. (No indoor pools in Las Vegas???? What kind of shit is that???) Plus, it was the instructor's last day. We get a new instructor next week. I like this one. I sure hope the new one is, too.
Then I went on to one of my new favorite places. It's in an old house and there are two flights of very steep, very uneven rock steps. I have been worried that this place will have to come off the roster if I can't get up those steps. So especially because this was not a great breathing day, I figured it would be a good day to give it a shot.
I made it. It was not a piece of cake but it is totally doable if I go slowly and stop at the landing for just a tiny minute. Yeah!!

Now I have the afternoon to ponder stuff like what is for dinner... pickings are kind of slim. Chef Anita won't be back until a week from Tuesday. I probably should go to the store, but I may just go out instead or go pick up something and bring it home. Maybe some kung pao beef that would make good leftovers tomorrow night. hmmmmm That sounds like a good plan.
But I think right this minute... it's laundry time!
