My keyboard is disgusting. And it was new out of the box only a year ago. I am a pig. At home, my keyboard is black. It is probably way more disgusting but what I don't know won't hurt me. This thing is just gross.
The aching in my arm/elbow comes and goes. After spending all day with it bent over this keyboard and mouse, it hurts to straighten it out. But as long as I keep it bent, I'm ok. I just put another ice pack on it. The ice packs are those things that come in a box and are just ordinary until you squeeze and pop them and then they turn cold. Problem is, when your right hand is connected to the problem, it's hard to get a strong enough grip to pop it. But I managed and it sure does make it feel better.
The server where my publishing tools are is being moved tonight and tomorrow and so will not be available at all tomorrow which essentially means I shall spend the day picking my nose, I guess. That should beboring interesting.
I watched some more PBS pledge drive stuff last night. There was a music thing - like the one I saw from the 60's - of the 50's. And, as
estis pointed out - the people from the 50's are in far better shape than their younger counterparts. Those 60's were rough. The old film from the songs of the 50's is just kind of amazing. I remember it but I still can't even believe that Pat Boone sat on the steps surrounded by airheaded women in harmony and we thought it was entertaining.
I also watched a documentary on Annie Lamott. It was not new - best I can figure it was done about 5 years ago. I first happened upon her just after her son was born and that was in 1990-91. The documentary was done when he looks to be about 8 or 10. Still, it was interesting. She has always fascinated me and I've never really known why. I do not even like her fiction. Weird.
And, speaking of weird, I am listening to another book on CD. This one is one by Robert B. Parker. I am not a Parker fan and I do not know what possessed me to get this book from the library. It is a silly piece of junk - I think it's supposed to be a mystery but I'm 1/3rd into it and there's no mystery yet. I don't really like the characters much and the story is flawed and I'm totally 100% hooked. I'm was cutting and pasting and cutting and pasting a while ago and trying to remember where I left off this morning so I can better anticipate what's going to happen in the book on the way home this afternoon. That may be the actual mystery!
Now I need to get back to work. I have about an hour to get as much done before the shut the server down as I can.

For a book to keep you that interested a 3rd into it, and you don't really like the characters...I can't wait to read your review and look for this book!
On the arm pain...and I know you hate everything about doctors, etc...but..does it throb in pain in the middle of the night, or do you feel your thumb and hand "tingling" during the day?
I experienced this about 25 years ago, and had no idea what was happening to me, other than I was losing my grip on glasses and breaking them, and couldn't rid my bike as well. A friend suggested that I may have carpel tunnel syndrome. I was..."huh?"..what the hell is that? He was a flight nurse in the Air Force, and turned out he was right on the mark. I had a nerve conduction test, and an in the office quick "surgery" to clip the muscle that was pressing on a nerve going up my arm. Bam, a miracle wonder!
I've never had a problem since. Immediate relief.
Whatever the case for you, hope it goes away very soon. Your arm and hands are valuable commodities!

Date: 2005-03-23 11:48 pm (UTC)What I do is this: Whenever I go thrift shopping, I look for extra keyboards. The one I'm using now actually came from Seattle Goodwill for $2.99. The same one in the store goes for $20-24, or $14 on sale.
Pawn shops are another good source for orphan keyboards - in Prescott AZ, where tech stuff never made it to Goodwill, the pawn shops charged $5 for keyboards, $8-10 for the "fancy" ones. I really prefer the split keyboards, but I'm so destructive that I buy whatever I can get. The thought of ruining a $40-50 keyboard pains me too much.
