I do not remember Easter being a big deal in Seattle - big enough to close stores. But, apparently, either the Republicans have taken over more than I realized or I was wrong . I decided to make a quick trip to Sears. It's about a mile down the road so I hopped into the car and soon pulled into an empty parking lot. Clue #1.

I got out the car and met a woman coming from the door who told me she was as surprised as I was and she had just been downtown to discover everything closed there, too.

Hmmmm I wondered if Target was closed. They never close. But, the closest Target isn't that close. So I fired up Treo and invoked Google's SMS and entered Target Store.west seattle wa and the message came back immediately with the phone number and address. I clicked on the phone number and the recording told me that I was wrong again. Target is closed for Easter. I was glad I hadn't made the trip and proud that I remembered this handy Google function. Life without Google would just be substandard. I'm just saying.

In the UK they have Good Friday and Easter Monday off, it's the third school holiday too so all the kids are off for two weeks. It's the longest long weekend in the UK and the first vaction opportunity in the year. But like you I don't remember it being anything but a chance to get more Christians into church for an hour here.

Yes, I wondered why Easter is such a big deal. I tried to go to Target in Redmond, but it was closed... There were a good dozen cars waiting with me to turn into Target at the light--it *looked* busy, with all the traffic coming out of the lot!

So I went to the big Fred Meyer next door instead, which was packed, and then to Home Depot, also packed.

I, too, was surprised at how many places were shut down. Not an ordinary Northwest Easter.

I stopped at Freddie's this afternoon. The parking lot was fuller than it's been since Christmas.

Have you visited the new Costco yet?
I was down at Uwajimaya last week and was peering at local condos wondering which were yours

Happy Birthday

Weird. I don't remember ever seeing that either. I wonder if stores around here were closed yesterday. It seems most retailers have been going in the opposite direction, to the point where they are open on Thanksgiving even.
