I've recently found a gem on PBS called Independent Lens - it's a series of documentaries about a wide variety of people. It's apparently been around for a while and no one told me. Finally one of my Tivo's wised up to the fact that I was out of the loop and conferenced me in.

Last night I watched one that really got to my core. "They're old and their bold and they will change the way you think about aging." I dreamed about the film last night and am still conjuring on it this morning. It's a good story but the film makers really made it into an amazing film.

I never thought about a nursing home or assisted living place for politically progressives. That would be way more interesting than someplace like where Mom is.

One of the moments from the film that I cannot let go is when one of the women says she now takes her time with everything. When she is putting on her shoes she enjoys every minute of it and loves that she still has the ability to put on her shoes by herself. I actually thought of that as I got dressed this morning.

My arm hurts, I'm too fat to move like I want to. I smoked for too many years and so my breathing is not the best. And sometimes I really focus on all of this.

I need to spend more time thinking about, even though my arm is sore, I can still use it. I am not sick and feel pretty darned good for an old fat lazy woman. I can walk to and from the bus easily and get to work on my own and wipe my own ass. These are the things I am very grateful for.

If you get a chance to see Sunset Story, do. It's a gem.
