Well, that was a lively afternoon..
Mar. 9th, 2012 04:01 pmAt 1:20, we lost power. It was weird because in the olden days when the power quit, everything got instantly quiet. Now, between smart appliances and laptops that don't even blink when they lose juice, it's not immediately obvious. I noticed the TV (with Front Door TV Network) was off. I kept pushing the power button but got no action and then I noticed that nothing was on, except the aforementioned laptops.
Soon I learned via Twitter that I was one of about 30,000. Thanks to the cellphone, I could get my computers connected to the internet and depending on how long the power was out, I could last a while thanks to more than one laptop and a pile of cellphone batteries. But, I was hoping it would not come to that.
The next worry was the dryer repair man. Due here at 3. My first thought was how mad he was going to be having to climb up all those stairs and then I realized that was not the crux of the problem.
I am so rational and logical without electricity. I figure since I can't get on the internet, I'll watch TV. Ooops, since I can't watch TV, I'll listen to the radio. Fuck. Well, maybe I'll bake some muffins...
Seriously, I have zero as in NO off the grid skills.
Then Twitter - which was brimming with outage tweets - said that Seattle City Light said the power would be restored by 5. And minutes after that, they changed it to 6. And minutes after that the power came on.
Whew.
Just after 3, Bruce10 L. arrived. He opened the dryer door, stuck his arm in up to the elbow and held down the button (which closing the door normally engages) and asked me to hit the power button. He gave the drum a yank and bingo FIXED!! Seriously, that was all it took. YEAH! I was so relieved and delighted to pay him the $92. Really. I figured I paid for his expertise and it was totally worth it.
He whipped a netbook out of his toolbox and took down my credit card info and sent the invoice/receipt to my email. Delightful, efficient and skillful. I don't ask for much more out of my repair people.
Shortly after he left he called me and said that they had an deal where the technician who gets the most good survey reports gets a $30 restaurant gift card. He didn't ask me to even fill out the survey or give him good marks, he just laid out the deal which I thought was kind of classy. I told him he should start worrying about what he was going to order cause I was filling out the survey right now.
And I just got a note from Sheri that she got confirmation from Building Manager Scott that he has made his official approval and we are good to go on Monday!
Whew what an afternoon! But, all seems under control now. Yeah!

Date: 2012-03-14 07:29 pm (UTC)Sprint has this ohsoannoying thing that all their people do now. At the end of the call they say - exact words every time - 'is there any reason why you can't mark your survey that the service you received today was superior?'
I always want to say , 'well, it would have been if you had not just made that stupidly transparent request'.
Instead I lie and skip the survey.
