As it turns out the ActionTec powerline deal is great until it's not.  It worked fine when I set it up and then it just stopped.  And i's finest feature is its downfall.  It's so simple to set up because you just plug it in.  It's impossible to troubleshoot because there's nothing to fix, see, tweak, twiddle.  You can unplug and replug.  I found that that works sometimes but not long term.

Sigh.  I'm giving it one more day.  I canceled the others I ordered and I'm pretty sure these are going back, too.

Bummer.  I had great plans.

I've been using a ZyXEL Ethernet-over-Power (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833181127) for several months now, and have no trouble with them. They were also the 'plug and forget' kind, although I'm a little confused about setting up the connection encryption part. I try not to think about that too much.

It's not always 'just you'. Sometimes it's just the hardware. *shrug*

The ironic thing about the statement I made regarding having no trouble with mine is that not more than a few hours after having said that I had trouble with them. On the other hand the fix was really easy: I held down reset on each one, just for good measure, and everything was working again.
