most interesting spam
Jun. 11th, 2012 08:08 amI rarely pay one bit of attention to Spam. In fact, Gmail usually fixes it so I don't ever have to see it. Once in a while something slips through and today's something was pretty interesting...
Clearly I am not a prostitute (although there's nothing wrong with that), but that's not even the interesting part.
It was addressed to a gmail account using my maiden name. I last used my maiden name more than 30 years ago. I don't even use it as a middle name. My legal name and the name I use is susan dennis. The name I have not used in more than 30 years (and, so, pre-gmail or my use of internet) is susan schubert.
And, yet, here the two names are linked.
There is a susanschubert@gmail that is not me. There is a professional singer in Germany who uses the name Susan Schubert. I'm betting the gmail address is hers.
Interesting...

Date: 2012-06-11 08:29 pm (UTC)I just thought this was interesting since it connected the only two names I have ever used.
Anyone on the planet can be a google blog writer - for free.

Date: 2012-06-12 02:11 am (UTC)It's very public who I am an that my brother's name is Bill Schubert so the dots are certainly connectable but I find it odd that they got connected this way.
I do not believe that gmail had anything to do with it, however.
And, yeah, maybe the Susan Schubert who owns the email is actually a prostitute. Her pictures indicate she would be an expensive one.

Date: 2012-06-12 03:10 am (UTC)I always find it disturbing when the Internet knows something about me that I didn't tell it. The doors of its face are creepy.

Date: 2012-06-12 03:30 am (UTC)It's kind of like when you get fake mail from real companies.
I can't really get creeped out by internet secrets about me cause there really aren't any. It's all out there in public entries somewhere under my real name. Now if I were a privacy nut, yeah, that would be a way different story!

Date: 2012-06-12 05:06 am (UTC)We're both trolled :(
Date: 2012-06-25 12:18 pm (UTC)I own the defunct iwanderwhy.blogspot.com, which I have to close down after being compromised by a blog troll. First of all, I would like to clarify that I was not the one who emailed you this spam, as shown in the "from" field.
Secondly, the post linked to the spam sent to you is about a 2008 online scam incident. Yes it has been years. Recently, the same person in the scam resurfaced and google searches led the victims to my blog post. Visitors started sharing the 2008 link. That's when the trolling on my blog started--from useless comments to disturbing ones. And now spamming. I am not sure if the trolls are related to the scammer or not. I am not sure how the spammer linked your maiden and married names.
I was not doing the blog for money, so without second thoughts I took the blog down just to give rest to the issue, I'd rather keep a diary from now on.
I am deeply concerned that this person who did this to me spammed others using my blog. I would not apologize in his/her behalf. I hope you understand why I have to explain this, and why I had to comment in anonymity. Thank you for the opportunity.
