Dear Cats,
What is so odious about those last 5-10 kibbles left in the bowl?  To my decidedly untrained eye, they look exactly like the first 100-150 that you thought were just fine...  
Is there a cat union rule that prevents you from eating the bowl clean?

All the bad luck in the bowl filters down and concentrates in the last few pieces at the bottom.

You did not know this? For dogs, it seems the food in another dog's bowl is always tastier than theirs, so they eat all of it and don't touch their own.

I know it, I just don't understand it. And, I kind of feel back for those last few kibbles. They are, apparently, so unworthy!!

In my house one cat (Betty) gets to try both bowls first and then she eat what she wants out of both. Travis - way more than twice her size, knows the rules and lets her.

Food and pets. Mystery.
