Mom's car just got towed off to get sold. I'm not sure what transpired between her and my brother or her and my sister but the car thing has been an issue with both of them. The car itself is suitable for neither. It's a big old hunkin' 6 year old Buick that needs an aging retired white guy behind the wheel. My brother is not old enough and my sister's berkinstocks would get caught in the door jam. Plus they were both just looking for a free car and neither would have been able to afford the insurance.

So... she decided to sell. And somehow she got it into her brain that she could do it herself. She sent me a note about a week ago that one of the security guys there at the home wanted to buy it. "I'm not sure how to handle all the paperwork..." Holey crapoley.

I got Torry - the woman who handles Daddy's trust and does Mom's bills - on the phone and said HELP!!!! She spends her days, and has for years, helping old people with their finances. She knows how to best get stuff done. She said that she had a guy - a retired guy - who sold her clients cars for her and handled everything and did a great job and took a tiny percentage for the job. And... turns out... he's the father of the guy who owns the place that has serviced this car since it was born.

So I called Mom and said STOP! Torry has old Mr. Hay all lined up to do the deed. The papers are in the top left hand side of your dresser. (She can't ready the top drawers so that's where I keep the important stuff.) Torry will pick them up Thursday.

I just got simultaneous emails from Mom and Torry. "Your Mom seemed so relieved when I picked up the papers and keys. They will be by today or tomorrow for the car." From Mom. "If you want to wave goodbye to the car, do it fast cause they are hooking it up to the tow truck right now! Mr. Hay is sooooo sweet."

All's well that ends well.

Hey, I had a 6 year old Buick before I got the Trail Blazer.

This made me laugh out loud. I pick #2.

He actually did pick it out. This was car #2 of what I call my "Old Lady Cars" 4 door sedans, automatic transmissions. The only 2 cars I ever had that were automatics.

And don't you have an aging retired white guy at your disposal????

Funny thing is, I do, but he refuses to sell my car for me.

But then again, I'm an aging retired white guy myself, so I should be able to sell my own goddam car. But I haven't. Yet.

I think you missed the point. We're aiming to reduce the number of cars we own, not increase it.

By the way, I think I forgot to thank you (standing in for the Mariners) for actually managing to beat the Yankees once.
