A full and just wonderful Sunday morning
Dec. 9th, 2012 01:12 pmIt is not even 1 pm and I have already had one heck of a great, great day!
machupicchu and I planned to meet at a diner on the other side of downtown at 9. I decided to take the bus but didn't leave the house soon enough so had to run-ish to get the bus and man, did that ever take my breath away - not a metaphor!
But, I made it to the dinner in fine form and Matthew got there soon after. I picked Mattew's brain about a decision I was wrestling with and he was really really helpful. It was really neat to have someone to talk it out with. And then
ljtourist and his brother walked in!! I'd sent him a note asking him to join us but 1. he's in charge of late night life so I thought it was too early for him and 2. I did not know he had out of town company.
So it was a treat to meet his brother and add them both to our visit.
After breakfast they went to the airport and Matthew and I walked to City Hall to check out the marriage excitement. It was amazing and wonderful and life affirming and spiritual and joyous.
Through pure dumb luck, we got there at the perfect time. They (the city?) had tons of volunteers on hand to direct people traffic and the minute we got close, we encountered the first one who sent us around the corner where we landed in a great spot (up there near the top of the stairs on the left hand side of this picture. About 5 minutes after we got there, the first couple came out. There were cheers clapping and waving.
As the couples came down that grand stairway, random people - many of them children - handed them flowers. When we changed places later, I saw that many of those people had come with buckets of stemmed flowers to hand out to each couple.
As they got to the bottom, there were all manner of video cameras - press and private - capturing the moment and the cheers. I teared up with every single couple we saw. Hell, I'm getting teary right now just writing about it. I am so glad I was there and got to see it.
But finally, I ran out of steam and headed home. By the time I got home I was really ready to sit to rest my knees and my lungs but then I realized that I had walked nearly 2 miles today and then stood around for an hour. While I suspect most people would consider those accomplishments a nothingburger, I was thrilled.
I've been a little worried about CES this year. Last year, on my own, I rented a scooter and was fine. But, this year, I want to do it on my feet and I need to keep up with my brother and I was worried about being able to do it. But now I think I'll be fine. Yeah!! (Plus, he aluded to some kind of foot problems so while I don't wish him any pain, it would be nice if he was a little limited, too. I'd feel better. And it is all about me.)
Soooo good good day so far! Now I am home - the Seahawks crowd, for the most part, has gone into the stadium. My space heater is warming my toes. Betty is right here leaving me enough of the keyboard to type on. All is good.
