As I said in reply to a comment today, I understand that people involved directly have much to deal with but I think their dealing is a personal and private thing.  I also get that some people just need to wallow in dispair and the shooting of small children gives them a perfect petrie dish to grow their negative feelings.

I also understand that the media feel like they must perpetuate the worst and so they do.  The ombudsman for NPR this morning, had an interesting piece on how wrong the initial reporting was by everyone in so many ways.  I have yet to hear or reada piece on how miserably those with Asberger's Syndrone and Autism will suffer because of the misinformed coverage.

I am making a choice to not wallow and up the prescription on my cynical spectacles at the same time.  We all gotta do what we all gotta do.

Betty is eating me out of house and home.  Yesterday she ate nearly 3 small cans of food plus nibbled on the dry food.  This is a 6 pound cat.  On the up side, we've hit on a nice compromise about brand.  She's fine with the cheap stuff as long as she gets variety.  Petco has 30 cans for $18 and I got 60 hoping it would carry me until after CES.  Looks like my plan may fall short.

Starting in January, I think I'm going to start ordering from Amazon. I can't get quite the selection as I can at Petco but it is easier and cheaper and I can come close and maybe Betty can be convinced.

I now have 3 different novels going.  One on my Kindle, one audible.com and one library MP3.  I wish I wouldn't do this.  I confuse myself.  But, two are libary books with deadlines and both are excellent so I need to finish them before they expire.  The downside of electronic library lending is that when the due date rolls around it's not like you can just hang on and  pay a fine!

I cannot tell if my dishwasher is leaking or not.  Isn't that just the stupidest??  It really leaked once.  And leaked a little another time (with a couple of non-leaking runs in between).  The leaking area as a little damp in a little spot this morning but - the pipes are dry as a bone and I can't get it to leak enough or consistantly enough to call the appliance place.  Sigh.

My first IBM pension check arrived safe and sound into my checking account.  I am on a roll there.  No drugs at Walgreens yet.

The autism community has been very proactive in reaching out to immediately try and educate about a) what autism actually is (mainly the difference between it and mental illness) and b) the lack of links between conditions on the spectrum and violence. I have seen several articles as well as information posted from Autism Speaks, plus the local Autism Resource Center to me has been fielding a lot of quesions - mostly from concerned parents like myself about what backlash this could cause down the road for our children. So far, I am hoping that the ignorance just blows over. The stupidly optimistic side of me hopes this could be the chance for an open, educating dialogue about neurodevelopmental disorders and mental health disorders but I believe I am wildly naive in thinking that day might ever come soon.
