First the news. I got none. I have not heard anything from anyone since the last entry. I could call Polly but I decided that that would be selfish. There is nothing I can do. If she needs me, she'll call me. I'd rather she use her time, energy and cellphone battery in pursuit of Mom's comfort. Plus, I'm sure my sister is badgering the hell out of her.

I can just hope that Mom is happy and as comfortable as possible. I hope this is not the beginning of the end but if it is, I hope it is swift and not complicated or painful. If she wants to say 'fuck it' and let go, she's certainly earned that right. I will have been lucky to have had her for the time I did.

But, hey, she may well pop back and be full of piss and vinegar again. Wimbledon is starting soon and I really kind of doubt she'd check out until after that anyway. Priorities.

On a much happier note, I think I have found my Summer knitting joy.

Meet Teddy.

He's a joy to knit and finished, he's a good size using my favorite needles and left over afghan yarn. Perfecto! Plus, in this morning's paper there was a great story about a family run hotel who's mission is to house the family and patients at a hospital across the street. In the article they talked about the maintenance guy who loves his work to bits. I think once I get a few finished I'll contact him and see if maybe he could sprinkle these teddies around where they might be most appreciated.

And, as if to reward me for finding something to keep me off the streets during hot weather, the sun took a rest this morning and decided not to bake my living room. The forecast notes that the sun is likely to appear this afternoon but my east facing terrace isn't at all afraid of afternoon sun. And the future week or so looks cooler. The worst maybe over for now. thankyoujesus.

Heat beater recommendation - Didn't you say the Library was near by? Why not take some spare knitting needles, yarn, pattern and head up to the library and maybe find a comfy chair and a book where you can alternately read and knit (and people watch while you knit).

I imagine they air condition the library and it probably kicks in at a certain climate controlled degree level since it's all about taking care of the books you know. So I suspect it's a nice free air conditioned place you can hang out.

I love teddy! He's perfect. If you hadn't had such a hard time getting your hands on the pattern I would try to order it myself.

air conditioning ...

... is part of why i love my job (well, when i have one). nothing like a perfectly cool machine room to make my day ... cooler! we're supposed to get temperatures in the high 80's later this week ... these temperatures are heat wave temperatures for us, so i'll be looking around for a machine room to hide in :)

OOOH!!! Cool teddy!!!

Sorry to hear about your mom. I hope she either bounces back and is full of piss and vinegar again soon or, if that's not possible, that the end is quick and as painless as possible. And, of course, that whatever the result, that it's best for her.

Aging parents. Tough stuff...
