Mom and the Naked Guy
Jun. 7th, 2005 08:25 amMom is better. Really. Yesterday when I called, about 10% of what she said made sense. Today about 80% of what she said made sense. And she sounded like she knew it, too. For the first time, she asked about her computer - whether there was anything on there (meaning email) she needed to worry about.
She did ask me where I was and when I told her I was walking from the bus to my office she said 'oh I thought you were coming here.' And a couple of other things about people that she said didn't really make much sense. But, she volunteered that she was off of all of the pain stuff except Tylenol and felt pretty good.
Kind of amazing. I'm getting some funky info from Polly about the sitters I hired to stay with Mom. Polly's emails leave a lot to be desired in the coherent department and, Theresa is her usual non-communicative self. If she accidentally answers the phone - which has happened twice, you get to talk to her. Otherwise, leaving voice mail or email does not evoke a response of any kind. And this is starting to piss me off.
I want those sitters there with Mom 24/7 until MOM says 'get these people out of my room'. Today I asked if there was someone there with her and she said yes and I said 'great, that's the way it's supposed to be' and she said 'good.'
But the whole conversation with Mom was delayed by a naked man... I'm riding the bus going north on a major expressway that is generally not crowded at 6:30 a.m. and I'm noticing that it's a bit crowded. Pretty quickly it goes from crowded to crawling.
Turns out - on the overpass before my exit, there's a naked guy threatening to jump. And they have closed the freeway. We got off at the exit where he was doing his thing and got to see the entire tableau... Naked guy and about 40 bluejillion cops, firefighters, rescue people and probably a few people who keep an orange vest and hard hat so they can blend in and catch such action up close and personal. It was quite the scene.
Lunch box guy - one of my bus regulars - was so excited he could hardly stand it. He's on the maintenance crew at the count park association and I really wanted to call ahead to the rest of his crew and warn them that they were going to have along day with no end of details about naked jumping guy. Lunch box guy likes to tell the same story over and over again - I think he's trying to see if the outcome will differ.
The poor bus driver - who is new to this route and maybe even a new driver, he doesn't seem like he quite 'owns' the seat yet - was just flummoxed. He didn't know where to stop and let all the Microsofties off and was way worried about how in the world he was going to make up this lost time.
All in all kind of an exciting morning to have - all before 7.

Date: 2005-06-07 05:43 pm (UTC)I'm glad to hear your mom is better. Keep after those folks.
As for the naked guy: well, there'd be no point messing up perfectly good clothes, would there? (I hope they got him out of there safely.)
