I just got a link from my brother...

The obit of his second wife that he just stumbled over.  He got a wild hair to google her today and discovered that she died last week.  Wild.

She was really pretty and very nice and very smart and my parents hated her. She was not wild about my brother's kids (two boys in their early teens).  She and my bother were both Navel Officers at the time.

They got married in a very small little ceremony in Rhode Island.  Seems like they kept it a secret from my parents and only told me (in the family).  I lived in Connecticut at the time so I grabbed my current significant other and we hightailed it up the turnpike.

EDIT:  He just reminded me that the quickie wedding was because their assignments were about to change and if they didn't get married, they might be assigned to different ends of the earth.  They had a church wedding with full family later.

Very sad .... I wonder why your folks disliked her so .... I have to admit ... I didn't recognize you in the photo until I double checked the caption and reminded myself you weren't the bride:)

I think my parents were still pissed that he divorced wife #1 and not happy that she didn't gush all over those two bratty kids (aka their 'perfect grandchildren').

That picture was taken about 25 years and 100 pounds ago.

mid-late 80's and yeah, he was... it was his personality that finally did the relationship in. he ended up marrying a co-worker of mine.

BTW, figured it had to be the 80's, due to your dress (nice BTW), and his glasses that tipped me off to the decade, though when I read you had mentioned, 1985 in a previous comment above mine, I had no idea exactly when.

My Mom was a sewer too for years, finally burning out sometime in the early to mid 1990's, after she got the Viking/Huskvarna machine that is now mine.

oh so different. fascinating.

i wonder about the people 10 years old now... when they get to be our age, every second of their life will be in some photograph somewhere. what a timeline.

we have gaps that really highlight the differences.
