Break Time
Jun. 18th, 2005 03:22 pmWhew. This is hard work! I made the privacy curtain for the desk (to hide the CPU and the wires and I don't hate it. I may improve on it with a different fabric one day but for now, It's fine.
And now I'm hemming bedroom closet drapes. I'd forgotten how long and involved it is to measure cut, press, pin and sew. Even long straight easy seams take forever just to get set up. The desk curtains took me all morning.
The closet curtains are shear so they need a liner and that's what I'm doing. We're using white sheets but they are 6 inches too wide and 11" too long so each one has to be trimmed and hemmed. And, since I'm a perfectionist, I can't just hem one side - I have to do both so they match. There are five panels. I have 1 done. 4 cut. 2 measured pressed, pinned and ready for sewing.
But, I thought maybe I deserved a break.
I don't have any TV or radio or music on - just me and the fan and the occasional squeal of tires. They are doing swerve tests on SIV's in the parking lot outside my terrace. But mainly I hear the fan which is osculating. As it turns it has the most wonderful squeak. It sounds exactly like the porch swing did at Grandma's when I was a kid.
Oh I did run out to get a zipper foot for the sewing machine - no can find mine and, it turns out, no can find a new one. Monday. Calling the parts dept at Sears - that should be fun.
And I went to Home Depot to get the carpet for the terrace. They didn't have it out which means I can't get it until next week which actually suited me fine. I really didn't want to fuck with it anyway.
I think I'll go back to the sheets...

My mother sewed all our clothes. Whe was an excellent seamstress, but she was good at almost everything creative. I am not, but I can spell better than she could, lol.
