I got up early this morning to go swimming. It was glorious. Monday's are so crowded when the pool opens at mid-day, early morning is an especially good option.  Today there were very few people in the pool. It was lovely and quiet and focused.  It's truly a wonderful way to kick off the day.

This time last year, I was in a job funk.  I was finishing a project that I'd been on for more than a year. It was a flawed project and stressful.  I was glad it was over and ready to move on to something else.  Only it turned out, I would find out before the end of the month that there was nothing else, I was laid off.

Last night I looked at journal entries from July of last year and even before I got the news I was thinking of quitting.  The end of July was the end of the job.  I never really got serious about finding another job.  I set out to be retired.  It's been an interesting year. Not a really amazing year but, honestly, I've got zero to complain about.

I'm not sure what today will bring.  It's still such a luxury to have all the time I want to do whatever I want. I have knitting and reading and TiVo and, if it doesn't get too hot, I might even walk up the street to one of the new restaurants for lunch.  There's no more baseball until Friday.  Usually, I find the All Star break annoying but this year, I'm grateful for the break.

Right this minute, I think I'm going to finish my coffee over a mindless computer game.  Because I can.

You have such a peaceful existence. I envy that. I know you've earned it, and one day, I hope to as well. I do live vicariously through you, though. I do :)

You have helped me to remember something I could consider for my job prospects moving forward. It donned on me the other day that if I were to go back to federal employment, I would already have 7 years counted towards retirement, which also gives me 7 years towards my PTO earnings and such. If it hadn't been for your early retirement and good planning, I don't know if I would have remembered.

The flashlight analogy is a great one. It reminds me that not every light is the train coming down the tunnel ;)

Today is the fourth anniversary of my arrival in Minnesota. I'm going to check back to last July to see what I was writing about .. .most likely bitching about how unhappy I was in the job that I left at the end of May or some health issue:)
