Mostly Swimming
Jul. 21st, 2013 01:44 pmSometimes when I get in the pool, I can just swim a lap, stop, turn and swim right back - lather, rinse, repeat for 30 minutes straight.
But, sometimes, like today, I don't have the steam required. So I do intervals. I time my leave - like I leave when the timer gets to the minute. It generally takes me 40-45 seconds to get to the end. Then I rest til the timer gets to the minute again. Lather, rinse, repeat.
This is where the counter helps me feel like I'm getting the most out of my swim. A half mile is 36 laps.
When I do continuous laps, I can do a half mile in 30 minutes. But when I do the intervals, it takes longer. But, rather than guess, I just count. Today I did 40 laps in 45 minutes. I'm perfectly ok with that.
I feel like a half mile a day is a good workout.
It gets me stretched and enables me to feel better all day long and it's fun. And, it's easy to find 30-45 minutes of uncrowded pool time at one pool or another every day of the week. My two fears are doing something - injury or illness that will have some doctor telling me I can't get into the pool OR finding swimming no longer fun. Right now it's hard to imagine the latter but ... Once, long ago, I made a business out of hobbies - sewing an knitting - it sucked the joy I got from both of them right out of me for a long time. I do not want to make that mistake again.
