And still another ... ahhhhh
Jun. 24th, 2005 08:30 pmI realized that I could easily do all the filing shit with the ballgame on in the background. The Mariners can lose fine and dandy without my intense focus.
I had just jammed the file folders from the boxes into the desk once the desk was finished. And I had 3 inboxes full of stuff to be filed plus, as it turns out, another 2 stacks I had forgotten about.
I am here to tell you now that the files are in order and Every Single Fucking Piece of Paper in this house is in its appropriate place - either the round file or a labeled file in the drawer. Wow.
I have gotten very good at throwing stuff out. Very good. But, even still something will not just go gracefully into the trash. Tonight it's Georg, the Zippo.
I spent about half of the 80's in a torrid affair with a guy who's father owned a jewelery store. (For bling lovers, I highly recommend this course of action - I still have some lovely jewelry - unusual and really beautiful pieces.) My friend was not a jeweler but occasionally he was drafted into service when the store was short handed. Once he came over with a gift box. We were both smokers (and quite good at it) and I was delighted when I opened the box to find a beautiful Zippo lighter.
But, as I looked closely, I saw it was ingraved. Georg. ??? Well, turns out George's wife wanted his entire name on the lighter and not just the first 5 letters. So I got the reject. And my friend's career at the jewelry store was over.
Every after, anytime we needed a light, we used Georg (which we pronounced G(hard g)eee Org.
I will likely toss Georg, but not tonight.
And the Mariners are currently winning!
