I'm having a better than usual breathing day and my trip downtown took really not that much walking and yet, I found, as I walked around, even in the store, I was running out of steam.  I had to stop and sit for a bit before I could even get back on the bus. I did manage to get into the Japanese grocery for rice and get home but it was a bit of a struggle.

Today's trip is no big deal but when I transpose it onto CES, I'm in a world of hurt.  So I caved and rented a scooter.

A couple of years ago when I went to CES by myself and was coming off pneumonia, I rented one and it was nice to have then.  I think it will be good this time, too. At least I won't have to worry about whether or not I can make it and whether or not my feet will last.

I went to the CES website and clicked through to the scooter rental place and started the reservation... $198 for 3 days.  Pick up at the convention center.  Last time they delivered it to the hotel and I really wanted to get it Monday instead of Tuesday... So I called them and found out that they will deliver it to the hotel on Monday before I get there, then I keep it until Thursday night and drop it off at the bell hop's desk.  $125 total!!  I saved a ton on the hotel by going through CES but not on the scooter.  So glad I called.

Anyway, yeah, decision made. I warned my brother. I think it would be a pain to hang out with someone in a scooter but it would be far worse to hang with me not breathing.  He was very gracious about it.

I've found that scooter rental is a dirty little secret at Disneyland. If you follow the typical recommendation, you rent a scooter at the front gate and pay $50 a day plus a $20 refundable deposit for use only within the park. If you stay at one of the Disney hotels, the concierge can rent a scooter for you for $30 a day with unlimited use anywhere. That's so incredibly important because just getting to the parks can be a hassle. And so much cheaper too.

I've been to CES and can't imagine coping with the exhibition halls with a physical limitation.

And I felt similarly about using a scooter at Disneyland until I realized that I'd never be able to go back and visit again if I didn't "break down" and get one. So nuts to the stigma of using one...

And you'll have a method for carrying around all that swag :)
