First of all, you should put your sunglasses on right now. Seriously. My teeth are so white that I'm afraid it will hurt your eyes. It's a little frightening. My plaque was my friend and it's gone.

It all unfolded pretty much like the good dentist predicted. The bulk of the effect of whatever-it-was sedation wore off towards the end so I really remember the last 30-45 mins. I remember whining that he was taking too long and I remember his promising 15 minutes and his assistant hearing 50 minutes and their bantering about it and my thinking GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY MOUTH AND LET ME GO HOME!

I remember reading Good Housekeeping while the drug lady hooked me up to the blood pressure cup (which squeezed the bejesus out of my arm every 5 minutes for the duration). I remember the first shot of novocain. I remember his pulling out the wisdom tooth. That, alone was amazing. It was like he took tweezers and picked up a seed. He just reached in and plucked it out with zero effort. Gone. I also remember his swapping places with a female who cleaned my bottom teeth. And then he was back to do the top and finally I was out of there - after I told him who I was and where I was.

Kieran was right there and had a tiny little stuffed puppy for me. Around the puppy's neck was a ribbon color with a tag that had his cellphone number and home phone number on it. "If you need anything, call me first!" Isn't that the coolest thing and what a wonderful idea! The puppy is on my nightstand where he will stay.

I was able to talk and chat and show him a short cut to my back door. I got in on my own steam. Made an LJ entry. Sent Kieran and email and got the laptop and went to bed. I turned on CNN. It was about 6:45. I woke up about 11:30 and realized that my mouth wasn't killing me and went right back to sleep. I knew nothing unitl 5:30 when the alarm went off.

My jaw is sore - probably just from spending 5 hours propped open. I have a piece of suture flying around in the back that I can't really reach with scissors. But Sherry, downstairs neighbor, is a dental hygienist and I think she has Tuesdays off. I just sent her an email asking if I brought my tiny scissors down to her would she snip it off.

Otherwise, I'm really ok. I'm so glad I did it. So glad. And so glad that I can use the past tense. Whew.

Oh and yes, I am fully capable of going to work today but I am not going to. There's nothing crushing that has to have me there today and I think I'll just enjoy a day off. I have some errands to run and a beautiful home to enjoy and I think that's what I'll do instead.

Because I can. I also think I'm going to spend some of today rereading all the wonderful comments to my entries about all of this. You guys are just amazing. Thank you. Very. Very. Much.

Yay!! Mine was only 4 hours, I think. And like you, I was semi-conscious for the last 30 mins or so. For the blood pressure, they put it on my right index finger.

I wonder if I'd have answered correctly if I'd been asked who I was and where I was. :)

Enjoy your nice, relaxing day off. :)

Isn't it nice when unpleasant ordeals aren't as bad as expected and are over!

And see, you get a nice day off, too.

I'm glad it's over and you survived. Now just waiting for the blinding white teeth pictures after it heals!

5 hours is a long time - the swallowing reflex things gets me after a while. I took the day off after I had my tooth pulled last week too - nothing wrong here either, but you've got to milk it for what it's worth. Glad you're OK :)
