Welcome to Wal-mart...

My home telephone - land line - which I rarely use, has an answering machine hooked up to it. I never bothered to set the date and time and usually forget to even look at it. This morning I noticed it was blinking... hmmmm

There was a message from a recruiter at Wal-mart. He had found my resume on line and and wanted to talk to me about a job of senior internal communications manager. I have no idea when he called but I called him back this morning.

Nice guy.

If I were to give up contracting for any regular career like job, it would be internal communications - crafting the messages that make employees feel valued and informed and part of the process is something that I love doing and would love doing again. Being the senior manager in charge of a group of people who have this as their charter would be wonderful! Seriously.

Of course, the fly in the oinment - or in this case, the faclon in the oil spill - is not Wal-mart. I love Wal-mart. It is, of course, Arkansas. No Fucking Way doesn't even start to cover it.

The guy was very nice about it. And he asked if he could email me some details and some links and if I thought about it and changed my mind about Arkansas, he would love to have me come and visit and see for myself what a nice place it is.

Bless his heart. Really. NFW.

Just for starters, the job advertised would be ridiculously hypocritical considering your goals; few companies have more adversarial labor relations with their workers. You'd try to make people feel valued while they are being screwed over by their managers on probably every level.

Oh yeah. They are the worst! Sometimes they get your legs but what they love are your arm pits, under the wasteband and leg bands of your underwear... And they LIVE there! When we were kids you had to put nail polish on the bites to kill them. The smart ones used clear nail polish.

They are just the worst. You are blessed to not have heard of them!
