Teeth and Travel
Jul. 14th, 2005 09:51 amTooth Report: The stitches are dissolving and my tongue is getting used to them anyway. There is still enough soreness so that chewing is not that much fun.
Devon (from the dentist office) called this morning - finally. I was beginning to think she's dumped me. They want me back for a look see in 10 days. They have some kind of mouth rinse they want me to use that requires a prescription. Bother. I told her I'd would not be able to get it filled until tomorrow. She's calling it in to the drug store next to the library where I guess I'll go tomorrow - I need to return some books anyway. I am a little tweaked that I specifically asked several times if there was anything I needed to get at the drug store for after care and they specifically told me several times, no. And now, this. It's minor but then I'm easily tweaked. But, anyway.
I made my reservations to visit Mom for Thanksgiving. I actually have very little patience for travel stuff any more. Getting the best price is just a pain in the ass. In the past all I needed was plane tickets and that was bad enough. Now I need plane tickets plus car rental plus hotel room. Triple pain in the ass. Plus the one airline with the best flights is US Air which keeps looking like it's going to fail. But, I made the reservations - on Expedia which I hate because of their pop up ads - except for the hotel. The only hotel that is handy is a Hampton Inn and their prices were better at their website which I get a discount for being old.
Anyway - it's all done. I did not tell Mom before I did it. She will be in her new two room suite by the time I get there and I'm pretty sure she's going to suggest we just blow up an air mattress and I can stay there. So I wanted to make sure everything was a done deal before I told her. It is and I did.
I leave on the red eye the Friday before Thanksgiving and return about 7 p.m. ish on the Friday after. It will be fine.

I mean this as a compliment
Date: 2005-07-14 06:14 pm (UTC)I just think it's great to know that it isn't just me out there bitching about it all!
Is it Chlorhexidine Gluconate?
Date: 2005-07-14 07:04 pm (UTC)My gums and teeth were not in bad shape so after reading the insert that came with the oral rinse I told my dentist no on this one. I didn't see the point of using something twice a day that would discolor my teeth, generate plaque and require that I go in for a scraping and cleaning every three months while I used it.
Re: Is it Chlorhexidine Gluconate?
Date: 2005-07-14 07:29 pm (UTC)I just called the dentist office and explained what I had discovered and told them that unless they could get back to me with very compelling reasons why this was critical to my care, I'd be taking a pass on this.
Oh and it also says that it can adversely affect taste - like I don't already have enough taste issues! Geesh.
THANK YOU!! Wow. Really.
Re: Is it Chlorhexidine Gluconate?
Date: 2005-07-14 08:39 pm (UTC)Same here. It does seem to be a major improvement in treating gum disease and I would have used it if they could have given me a reason why it was necessary. But in my case there wasn't one.
I'm going to be smiling all day about the sudden jump in your f-list ranking!
