Pillow Sayings
May. 6th, 2014 09:01 amI just read a tweet that said:
Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, you should set up a life you don’t need escape from. #EverydayVacation
Just yesterday someone asked what I'm often asked, 'are you going on vacation this Summer?' and when I say no the asker is always shocked and unhappy. 'not going anywhere???!!!'. This has always amused me and kind of confused me. But now I know. I have a Vacation Life! No need to escape at all!
----
I just found out that my sister-in-law, yesterday, slipped in the grass and broke one ankle and sprained the other one. My brother says she has degenerative issues and no muscles so no support and something like this is just a matter of time. He says that it's hard for him to not get annoyed. But, he doesn't think there's anything she can do. She had gastric bypass surgery years ago and lost very little weight and refuses to exercise or change any bad habits and that does make him crazed. But... as he just said in a text:
One of my favorite people in the world, Pat Summit said: "It is what it is but it will be what you make it".... working that all the time.
(Fortunately, a couple of years ago, they sold their house and moved into the other half of his shop so they have concrete floors and bathrooms at both ends of the place that are set up for handicap access. So today, she's near him (and the techs in the shop) if she needs stuff but can roll around on an office chair and easily get to the bathroom on her own.)

Date: 2014-05-07 01:36 am (UTC)Essentially, to set up a life where I didn't need time off work to pursue the larger of my interests, I would have to become independently wealthy. While there is merit to the idea of striving for this, anyone who tells me I 'should' do this instead of what I am doing clearly has little understanding of the other drivers of my decision to work full time. Never mind that I am one of the more fortunate - many folks don't have the opportunities that I do, and anyone in real poverty would just laugh hollowly at that admnonition.
Having said that, it's a nice idea.

Date: 2014-05-07 01:54 am (UTC)I would never tell anyone what they 'should do'. As it turns out, without really planning it, I have, indeed, built a life where I am independently wealthy and I love it. BUT that is ME and finding that tweet reinforced what I love about what I have. Key words there are Me and I. :)
