a nit about the new Live Journal
May. 15th, 2014 02:01 pmThis is my JOURNAL...
The new Live Journal now thinks it'a blog. They have now tagged everything a blog. Wonder if they plan on changing the domain name - LiveBlog???
There is a pretty substantial difference to me and this is my journal not my blog.
Journal = a daily record of news and events of a personal nature; a diary.
Blog = a personal website or web page on which an individual records opinions, links to other sites, etc. on a regular basis.

But I don't think that's the reason the LJ management wants to rename the journals into blogs. I guess they are just trying to brand LJ as something more easily understandable/recognizable to potential users... but that's just a guess, of course.

Date: 2014-05-16 01:12 am (UTC)I've always considered a journal to be more private in nature (though not necessarily), with a much looser focus, a blog is really about a particular subject, or subjects that interrelate to each other, such as design blogs, or food/recipe blogs, or DIY blogs.
A good example of a blog would be say Manhattan Nest (DIY/Decor), Smitten Kitchen (recipes primarily), both run by individuals. Apartment Therapy or the Kitchn, blogs in every sense, but have multiple contributors, along with a FT staff for editorial means.
That said, I have both a journal, and a blog, and they are totally different animals.
My journal is about everything else under the sun, the blog is mostly about DIY/decor/home, cooking etc, and much of that will commence once I have a new humble abode purchased, hopefully soon.
Blogs are more often than not done with a professional intent in mind as well, and often relates to one's career in some fashion.

Date: 2014-05-16 02:37 am (UTC)Like you I prefer the term journal, which feels more personal and to a degree, more literate. I prefer being here on LJ. I see this venue as a site for people who like to write, and for the most part do it well, as well as a place for people who like to read. If feels both more cogent and less frenetic than say Facebook (a place where you'll never find me).
There are some superb writers here like say
And while I have your attention in particular, madam, you're one of the reasons I log on everyday, as are several who've just responded to this post.
