Throwback Thursday - My first house
May. 22nd, 2014 08:52 am1025 SW Broad Street, Southern Pines, NC
I bought my first house in the fall of 1976. I was 27. It was 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, living room, dining room, kitchen and 2 bedrooms. Probably about 1,500 square feet with a detached garage on an acre of meticulously groomed land. I bought it from the very grown children of a couple who had lived there for 30 years before they died - both in their 90's. The asking price was $26,500 furnished or $23,000 unfurnished. I offered $24,000 furnished and they said ok.
When I say furnished, I mean it came with everything except food and toothbrushes. All the furniture, plates, silverware, doilies and ferns.
I had to have my father co-sign the loan but I got the bank to agree his name would be taken off after 12 months and it was. My payments were $216.00 per month. Of that, $5 a month was for taxes. I sold it two years later when I moved to Charlotte.
The yellow with the pine trees is the photo from 1976. Those bushes in the front are azaleas that bloomed with a pink so intense that it hurt your teeth!
The photo on the right is Google street view. It is, best I can tell, now a doggie day care. Amzing that the house looks basically still in tact.
