The baseball game was great. Well, actually, the baseball, itself was good - we lost, of course, but it was still not a terrible game. I noticed that there was a guy named Betancourt on the roster and I had never heard that name before. When he came up to bat, they flashed his whole name and face on the game board... Yuniesky Betancourt. I had barely finished my 'who in the hell is Yuniesky Betancourt and what kind of name is Yuniesky???' when he hit a nice long drive and proceeded to haul ass and end up on third base! That Yuniesky dude can run! Then the board said it was his first major league hit. Sweet.
And that's why I do not generally like to actually go to baseball games. It's just too hard to get the info I need to really enjoy the game. I'm lazy. I like to be force fed the data by the commentators. And how in the hell can I mock their annoying ways when I am in the stands and can't hear them?
Plus there are way too many distractions. Even without the Knit 'n Pitch, there are people walking all around with outfits I need to check out and hairdo's I need to figure out and bags that I need to envy and food and smells and conversations to eavesdrop on. Who in the heck can focus on baseball??
But, the Knit 'n Pitch part was worth it. They did a fabulous job. There are probably 8 or 9 yarn shops in town and they were all there. With tables of special stuff and information and fun, friendly people. They gave away stuff and I got a t-shirt and everyone was so nice and friendly. And nearly everyone was knitting or crocheting something. The announcer said there were more than 1,500 people who bought the special knitter tickets.
Some knitting lady threw out the first pitch and they used a ball of yarn! It was hilarious. The Mariner Moose had yarn all up in his antlers. They really did it right. They kept saying it was the first annual. I'm absolutely going next year. This shot was during batting practice...
