Testing, Testing, Testing

susandennisI saw a bit this morning about a guy who has rigged up Google Maps for Treo. So I went to find it. It's one of those 'I built this for myself but thought if anyone else is interested...' It's a little rough around the installing edges. And he is very clear on it's being built and tested for Treo 650 and my Treo is of the 600 variety. But, what the heck. I've got a current backup so I gave it a whirl.
Bing, Bam, I'm in! I plugged in the zip code of the store I plan on scoping out after work and now I have that baby mapped out on my Treo! And I can walk around the map and zoom and to here to there... very excellent. (And, when I say walk, I mean walk - there's a little tiny guy who does walk wherever I send him on my screen... he's cracking me up.)
I posted a comment on his web page and sent him a very modest PayPal donation. He sent me some updated code and asked me to try a few things. I did. Works even better. This is cool.
In the olden days, I had an IPAQ with Pocket Streets which was pretty darned excellent for its time. So except for little walker guy, this is kind of deja vu with better maps.

Date: 2005-07-30 01:57 am (UTC)I met a lady at work - seemingly educated lady, a teacher - who kept asking me if my Treo was "Jabba compatible." This was around the time the Star Wars movie came out and once I'd eliminated that possibility, it still took me awhile to figure out what she meant. "Jabra? Like the ear phones?" "Jobber?" "Joppa?" No, she kept repeating, you know - JABBA!*FINALLY* I figured it out. But I didn't get it at the time, so I'm off to find some jabba for my Treo too so I can run this.
And thanks so much for the heads up. In this house, if it gets the susandennis stamp of approval, we check it out!
