With the change of the bear adoption situation, I've been rethinking my projects.  Crocheting a square after every bear is a good plan but I hated the squares. Too many holes and, individually, I didn't like them. Making a bunch and hoping they worked together seemed kind of dicey.  So I kept looking and I think I found a winner...




Not a square, I know... I may square it/them up later.  But I like the way they look and the color mixing opportunities. I need to figure out an easy way to work in the yarn tails from when you change colors but even weaving them in manually isn't horrible.

I don't really know what the end product will be. One options is sewing them together to make a bear!

If that's crochet, just hold the tails along the edge of the crochet and it will weave in as you go. No need to do it after.

This pattern does not make that very practical. I don't want the color changes to show on the front or the back.

The next row will cover it pretty completely. And since it's right up against the row before it doesn't matter if a tiny bit peeks through. I've always been able to carry a different color and not see it. Tryyyyyy.

I did try. It's the way I do it when I don't care about the color showing through on the reverse side, I tried that and several other techniques. They are not satisfactory to me. Probably they work fine for you. But I am a bit of a perfectionist about yarn color showing.
