Mr. Mercedes

I am not a big Stephen King fan. I love his writing. I hate his plots. Supernatural does not do it for me.

I caught a couple of reviews of his latest - Mr. Mercedes - that expressed disappointment at the lack of a supernatural element. So I bought it immediately. And wow.

It's a great read. Best I can figure out, it is not a series, so all characters are expendable which makes the suspense even more suspenseful. I'm actually listening to the audiobook version. I have 3 hours left and it's all I can do not to just devote the next 3 hours to finding out what happens.  But, I want to stretch it out as long as possible.

Plus, I'm hungry. So I think rather than firing it up for more right now, I'm going to go out for breakfast. It's too early for a lot of my favorite places and for that new place I still want to try, so I think I'll go to Luna's in West Seattle.  I can have some breakfast and then hit Trader Joe's and still get home before the baseball game traffic.

So... that's the plan for this morning...

Sometimes I wonder if anyone agrees with the critics...I swear it's like whatever they say, the opposite is true. So weird. Do you have a favorite Stephen King novel? For as much as I loved horrors in my earlier years, I've not read anything by him.

I think you missed my point. 1. No Stephen King favorites because I do not like his stories. 2. The critics steered me correctly to this novel which I do like. I think they are very helpful.

Oh wait, I see. I guess I read "like his writing" but there are a "very limited few with plots I like". Got it.

I feel as similar way about Stephen King, love his writing, the horror not so much. Have you tried the one about the JFK assignation? 11/22/63 - it's time travel, which I'm fine with, and is just a really good story.

nope. time travel in same bucket as supernatural and magic - not my cuppa.

Nope no good then. Oh well, you can always check the critics and see what else he wrote that they're disappointed in. :-)
