So, on the bus, I get an email from Sheri telling me that one bidder on painting the table pulled out and the other guy says it will cost $780 plus pickup and delivery - oh and they need to pick it up next week and it won't be done until the middle of September (well, the 9th but that's close enough). And they have to know today.

I was so not happy. What the fuck am I going to do. I don't like the table $880 worth... maybe $88 but even that's a stretch.

And then I saw the furniture store half way between my house and the bus stop. And I figured it was worth a look through just to clear my head. Mustafa Omuroglu (and there's a thing over the g that I don't have on my keyboard) asked me what I was looking for and I told him and he opened up a catalog and made the easiest sale of his life.

It's Calligaris. And a bit bigger than half of the one I have now and ohhhh so much prettier. With hidden storage! 4 weeks. He actually had a couple to chose from and none of them sucked but this one was perfect. I'm guessing that it isn't as solid as mine when it's lifted up. In fact the top is probably only meant to be lifted to get to the storage. But, I can either build a support for it or just be careful.

Now I have to figure out what to do with the table I have... but, I've got 4 weeks...

Here's probably a very naive question but is Mustafa's long pinky fingernail for coke?

In other decorating news, the valance rods are up... no sign of the fabric yet but it's going to be very doable. A whole lot of photographs got some very wonderful frames - this is for sprinkling around the bookshelves and they really are going to be wonderful. Sheri did a magnificent job matching picture to frame. And she's got a couple of more left todo.

I have new pillows for the living room which look great.

I have measured the electrical box and took the cover off the phone jack thing - it's going to need it's own box or I can just make a bigger box to do them both which is probably what I'm going to do. Tomorrow, first thing, I'm off to get the goods.

Things are wrapping up!

I'm starting to think Sheri is on crack. You could fly me out there and buy a can of paint and I could get the table painted for less than that.

So did she ever respond to the email?

It just seems crazy to me, but I am a cheap bastard! The new table does look really cool. If your cats are like mine they will try to get inside and somehow shut themselves in.

You sure the table wasn't actually meant to be a two-height coffee-table, suitable for TV eating? They are all the rage and four supports looks sturdy. I guess you will know when it arrives.

you can't fool me!

that "storage" will be hidden for about a minute ... and then the top will be perma-open!

(re my returned item saga ... got the replacement for the doa enclosure today. maybe the third time is the charm and it'll work. did your roomba turn up yet?!?)

Need to borrow my chainsaw? I'm currently short of a specific task for the next holiday weekend and sawing a table into pieces could be fun. But then I suppose the wood chips would get everywhere.
