Bits and Bytes
Aug. 16th, 2005 08:37 amMy friend, Kevin, is giving up his computer, and his LJ and it honestly feels like the death of a friend. I'm very sad about it. On the up side,
ms_hackman is finally back from that blasted cottage. I'm sure it's as lovely a place as you can have with no computer and no internet but seriously, without them, what is the point??
Yeah, I'm over the top and I know it. A couple of weeks ago I was without my DSL for nearly 4 hours. It was ugly.
My sister lived in a teepee one Summer in Texas. She's often lived in houses with no indoor plumbing. One of those times was the year after her first child was born. This was by choice.
My brother, yesterday, moved into a barn. It has no indoor plumbing. No running water of any kind. They have a small motor home. And he's thinking porta-potty. I'm thinking he's just crazy.
I pointed out to Mom yesterday that I was her own child who has always lived with plumbing. Proudly. I may have spent a night or two in places without it. Maybe one night actually. I tend to get memory corruption about disgusting things. Hell, except for the first 10 years of my life, I've never not had a color TV in my house.
I get pretty fucking granular when it comes to quality of life issues. Believe You Me.
The decorating project is, indeed, winding down. There are really only a handful of things left.
1. The valance fabric which I should get Thursday. I'll make it this weekend.
2. The hallway shelves - he's supposed to come today and Friday. He is making progress. They are looking nice. I'll be happier when they are finished.
3. After the shelves are finished, I am going to pull out everything that is to go on them and Sheri is going to arrange. That's probably not going to happen until mid-September.
4. The table should be here by mid-September.
5. And then I need to put the finishing touches on the makeover website - including a set of After pictures to match the Before
And, that's it. Then I need to pay off the rest of the equity loan, build my emergency cash reserve back up and start saving for new kitchen appliances.

Date: 2005-08-16 03:49 pm (UTC)Sherri is going to arrange? I'd look forward to the day this is all signed off and then go and move two of the bits she 'arranged', just to claim ownership. How long has this been going on?

Date: 2005-08-16 04:01 pm (UTC)We got together the first time on January 28. So it will have been about an 8 month project. I'm sure she would say that it was a compact and fast moving one and that we crammed 12 months of work into 8. But, then, she doesn't watch HGTV that much so she's never seen 'em do a whole fucking house in 30 mins!
Let me know, please, when Winipeg gets their first flake!
