Forget the white ear buds

The new cool is bluetooth earphones that hook around one ear and just hang there.

I need one. I don't have or want any devices - I don't want to actually use the thing but I do want to look cool.

When I was a teenager (dark ages, remember), I had an old hand set off an old Bell Telephone that some telephone guy forgot to pick up (in the dark ages, the telephone company owned the gear).

Anyway... I used to ride with that hand set and 'talk' on it in traffic. It amused the bejesus out of me. See, not much has changed. I'm still way easily amused.

Now I just need to do it with a faux wireless earphone.

Can you hear me now???

I have one of those, but my 'big old ears' were not meant to fit into it comfortably, so after a while it feels like the clip is going to cut my ear off. Still, it's better than a handset for talking and driving and less people know you are doing it. I prioritize driving above talking, so I don't always make sense on the phone, but living is better than appearing intelligent.

Any road up... mine glows blue when switched on and during a call it fades in and out. My ex calls it the borg headset.

On the technical side, battery life is good, for a thing that size, but sound quality leaves something to be desired. I don't think there a single headset designer in the civil world (non military/aerospace) that has the faintest clue how to make a passive noise cancelled microphone. The stuff we did for the military gave no background or wind noise and you could use a normal conversational voice when standing next to a running tank engine.

Really, tho... Really, you don't need to to feel good or sound good to be cool. Just slap that baby on and walk down the street muttering and you will be in like Flynn.

See now, in the past you could look at the person's hand and know that if it was empty and they were chatting on the phone then it was time to call the men in white coats. These days people walk round talking to thin air, just like it was a person, and you need to get a good look at both ears before you know whether to beat a hasty retreat.

M just got one and she loves it...she can her hands all messy in paint and still talk!
