Assistant Helper
Aug. 20th, 2005 07:39 am"I need to hide my book someplace where I can remember it and no one else can find it."
This was Mom's worry when I called her this morning. It seems that one of the social workers came by and wanted to replace some of the pages and very nearly grabbed Mom's book before she could stop her. It was, as Mom reported, a very close call.
The book is the album that the 'home' publishes. It has the poop on all the residents - their name and room or apartment number and phone number plus a picture. Without it, everyone would be 'that small one with the white hair'.
There is a good bit of turnover as people 'graduate' and others on the waiting list get in. So they publish new pages. When Mom lived in her apartment, they would just put the new pages in her mailbox and she'd retrieve them. Now, apparently, they deliver.
Mom is glad to get the updates but she annotates her copy heavily and she thought that maybe someone might be offended by seeing the big X's over the pictures of the 'graduates'. "But, mainly, I don't want anyone to see who I marked A.H."
I told her she could tell Judy (who isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer anyway) that it stood for Assistant Helper. Even Mom thought that was lame.
