I just went to check on something with one of my domain names. I have 4 of them (including Mom's) registered with DirectNIC. I logged into their website and saw a message that said Here's how directNIC is dealing with the devastation caused by Katrina, the aftermath, and what you can expect over the next few days. What?! Turns out DirectNIC is in New Orleans... downtown!

And, when I clicked on it, I found a link to a LiveJournal I've been reading all day!! [livejournal.com profile] interdictor IS DirectNIC!! Holey crap. Wow.

What a horrible mess.

It's scary. I used to go a lot when I was a kid. And last year I went and met some wonderful people. Lots of people think it's a dirty city, but I love it. It has character. I have tickets bought for November, and I am hoping I can go and spend lots of money to boost their ecomony some.

Gawd... seeing those images is so unreal. I wasn't living in Miami when Andrew hit. I was living upstate but, when I came on my first visit to Miami afterward I was totally blown away at how different things were after such a powerful hurricane. I also remember driving through Gulfport, MS back in the mid-70s when Camille had destroyed them in 1969. Life is so tenuous you know.
