I have not said much about what is happening in New Orleans because I honestly do not know what to say. I am probably not as outraged as some, not as sad as others, not as disgusted. But, I am sad and sorry and disgusted. I was not a fan of our president before this and he has done nothing to change that. I'm becoming a little creeped out by [livejournal.com profile] interdictor's militia mentality but I read every update and appreciate it. I do spend some time in the 'that could be me' space and know that it could be. I have no idea what I would do or how I would react. It is a sad and confusing and heartbreaking time.

I don't have a good way, yet to deal with all of it and I may never have. It may not be in this journal but it is with me.

I found it a little easier to appreciate Interdictor after reading the interview with the mayor (http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/09/02/nagin.transcript/index.html). Chilling, though.

Military folks do tend to revert to their training when under pressure, more so here than I've seen in the past though. I had friends who were in the Parachute Regiment and SAS and you'd never know except they didn't seem bothered by anything in normal life. Military that I know here seem to talk different, like they'd been completely reprogrammed. I think it wears off though. The friend who used to train submarine commanders (chief underwater naval tactics instructor for the pacific fleet) was just like anyone else.
