My latest finds
Sep. 2nd, 2005 09:30 amFor a long time now I have struggled with the easiest, best way to keep notes and lists and info and stuff. I keep some reference stuff (like Mom's passwords and my frequent flyer numbers and stuff) in private LJ entries in my Memories list. I keep some stuff in Gmail. And, then, of course, some is on my home desktop, some on my little laptop, some on my work computer and some on Treo...
A while back I did realize that all of these had internet access so maybe there was a one-for-all solution there. I needed something easy to access from any of these devices and easy to edit from any of them. I tried several different ideas. I used Blogger to set up a blog site that I figured I could add to from everywhere and access from everywhere. Treo wasn't that happy about it and they don't have anything like lock down. Another LJ account just for this was a thought but, nah. I created a free style website with a kind of rudimentary editing system but never really used it.
Then I found PBWiki and it's all good. I have one for public stuff susandennis.pbwiki.com - reminders and lists and links and one for private stuff - passwords and account numbers (and yeah, I know, nothing's safe, blah blah - one day I'll learn but for now I want handy). For some reason I have not yet been able to edit from Treo but I can easily access it from Treo and edit and access from anywhere else.
It totally rocks. Easy peasy with just the right amount of bells and whistles and fast. I can zip up my pages for safe keeping if I want with the push of a button. Make my PBWiki public or private with the click of a link. There are some other features that I haven't even tried yet but probably will. I am using a free account now but it's so cool that I'm beginning to feel guilty and will probably pony up some $$ soon.
Very cool.
Oh and my other cool find is Snippy. You wanna grab a portion of a screen really fast? Snippy it!
Which reminds me, I should make a PBWiki for cool tools. Hmmmmmm
Here's an example of a snippy of my PBWiki
