I'm with you on this one. You know what else is disturbing? That they make blue and purple peeps.
They look like they're suffocating under the cellophane, and I just want to poke breathing holes in all of the packaging and see if they'll turn back to pink and yellow.
Poking the cellophane renders Peeps stale and nice and chewy - a nice taste alternative to the usual soft sugaryness. I remember telling my dad once NOT to throw away the Peeps with open wrappers - we'd left them open on purpose.
I remember being happy when they started making Snowman Peeps. As for the Pumpkin Peeps - just close your eyes and think of Easter =) They taste the same.
