My condo is a modified loft. There is about a 3/4ths wall separating the bedroom from the living room/kitchen. The air conditioner is in the living room (the only room with the required way to vent to the outside). So the air in the bedroom is only partially cooled. I have a ceiling fan over my bed. But, last night even with the air conditioner and the ceiling fan, it was too hot. Finally, to get to sleep, I misted myself like you would a fern. It worked pretty well.

I do have an airbed I can blow up for sleeping in the living room in chilled air, if it gets too bad. And it might.

The 10 day forecast shows a few days with highs in the 80's and then nearly a week with highs in the 90's. Many (maybe most) people here have no air conditioning. I cannot imagine how they are going to make it through this Summer.

This morning, after my swim, I think I'll go find some breakfast and then run a couple of errands. I think I'll find a large store or two to get some walking done in air conditioned comfort.

I walked over to the teryiaki place yesterday and even walking in the shade didn't work. Too hot. Walking outside is not going to be an option for a while. No biggie. My preferred venue is always inside anyway.

During my first visit to Seattle in August 1989, the temps were near 100 degrees and my B&B room did not have A/C. I thought I was going to die:) Instead, I spent a lot of time in a rented air conditioned car and took myself to the movies a couple of times. I survived and came to love the city.

At work I usually open up the warehouse in the morning to vent out all the hot air, and then close everything up when it starts to warm outside. All is lost though when I have to turn on the oven. Then I just sweat.

Yup, no stinkin' AC here. :-(

It's already getting warm in the ol' apartment, and my bedroom, despite being on the north side of the building, heats up because of this heat generating thing of a PC. :-\

Ah well, I have the slider open some to let air circulate through and I'll close it up here once I have eaten. a homemade breakfast bowl, which DID heat up to some extent my windowless kitchen, but it was all on the stove top so not as bad as it would be if I'd used the oven. :-)

Outside of the following week with temps now in the 90's, assuming it all holds up as predicted, this may WELL be one of the hotter summers we've had since at least 2009 when we had that heatwave where Seattle actually hit 103 Degrees.

All this assumes one thing, if the heat remains this bad most if not all summer.

Does you ceiling fan have a reverse? I have central air, but my bedroom is upstairs and at the end of the hall, so it doesn't get as cold. I've been told to reverse the ceiling fan so it's actually sucking the air upward. That said, I prefer to have it blowing on me.

We have been camped out in the living room since the AC vent is in the kitchen...we just close the bedroom doors and sleep out here in toasty weather. Hopefully we won't have to do this all summer!

Have you thought about getting a small fan and sticking it on the floor in the living room and pointing it into the bedroom? We are using this technique to pull cooler air from the east side of the house to the west side of the house at the hottest times of the day. It's working decently well, and a fan that size is cheap!
