My new toy

I just Paypal'ed pounds for the first time. I guess I've never bought anything from another country with PayPal before but I needed to reward clever code and so I clicked on the Paypal button and voila! I'm spending royal coinage. It reminds me of the first time my Dad used an ATM in a foreign country.

I think we were in Germany and he stuck his card in and punched in his secret code and got marks and got a technology buzz that lasted for days. There are whole parts of the German countryside that to this day carry the soundtrack of my father's joyful amazement. 'Did you see that they had MY name on the screen??!! And the machine knew I didn't want U.S. Dollars!! It's amazing! Did you see that?'

He later got as far as the fax, technology wise. He stopped short of the computer - never could figure out why that was a good thing and died before he did. But, I digress.

The poundage was caused by [livejournal.com profile] mock2's LiveJournal Toys. It's way too much fun and so interesting.

In my next life, if I can't come back as a rocket scientist in a supermodel's body (who is also [livejournal.com profile] aellia's granddaughter), I'm going to code jockey so I can create cool stuff like this.

Pound Sterling

Woo! Thanks so much for the ljtoys site reference. I was asking about such a tool a while back in my journal, but didn't get any responses. I miss how salon.com would summarize your visitors when I had a blog there... even to the point of listing search terms that led someone to the blog. This might not be as feature-rich, but I'm giving it a try. :)

I love Paypal. It's one of those internerd things that I stop and marvel at for a moment every now and then. I love it even better now that it lets me pay for something in a foreign currency and charges my card in AUD, without charging an exchange fee. Now if it'd just let me have cards registered in two different countries, I'd see what I could do about the two of us getting hitched. I'm pretty sure they'd allow it somewhere. New Zealand, or Hawaii, maybe.
