I devoted today to Windows 10 only because I can. I have the luxury of vast numbers of hours strung together with no one wanting me for anything. My time is my own.  If that were not the case, I would be SO frustrated.

But, I have the time and it's not my main computer so there were issues (and there were) no biggie really. My brother's tech fixed me up and there are still some bits that need to be tweeked.  Also I need to test out my main uses - Publisher, photo editing, CD ripping and iTunes for my swimming iPod Shuffle.  I think if the price were not free, I'd probably still rock Windows 7 until the end of time - I've gotten technolazy!

I did the math on my sweater sleeves (conversions for yarn/needle differences) and cast them on but now I think I'm going to do it again because I want to knit them in the round so no seams.  That's tonight's project.

I have Windows 10 downloaded and ready to install, plus I've created a bootable USB stick for a clean install (because I'm pretty certain that my Win7 registry is so screwed up after five years of continuous operation that a clean install is really and truly warranted)...but I haven't done anything with it yet because I know it'll take me from a half day to an entire weekend to get things working the way I want them.

You're not the only one who would stick with Windows 7 until the end of time if the Windows 10 upgrade weren't free. I feel the same way. I'm not technolazy, I just don't like the inevitable reduction of productivity that a new OS brings. (If you want an earful, talk to me some time about the GUI differences between Windows Server 2008 and 2012. It's taken me what seems like forever to become productive with 2012, though it still makes me roll my eyes every time I have to locate an app.)

The only reason I don't want to do a clean install is...apps, apps, apps, APPS. Office 2013, Visio, LibreOffice, SnagIt, FileZilla, TeamViewer, Acrobat X, and a bazillion stupid little use-them-twice-a-year apps like P-Touch Editor or Logitech Harmony Remote Control Editor.

I plan to learn to knit in the round one day.

What issues did you have and how were they fixed?

My wife's laptop screen brightness wouldn't adjust so I googled it and found that I'd need to change the monitor drivers to the generic Microsoft ones. I did that and presto!

Now I'm trying to figure out how to get the performance back up. It's been super sluggish ever since the install.
