I so rarely talk directly to readers in this journal but I need opinions and where better to get some??!!

So... the Big Boot Hunt. Is down to these or nothing. These feel amazing. Right out of the box. Max arch support and plenty of toe room. And soft linings. Big enough to wear with socks, fitted enough to wear without.

But... they are house slippers!!! Zappos has them in the boots category but Zappos is category broken.

I don't want boots I can't wear in the rain and snow (yeah like we'll ever see any of that),but is that the only downside? What about if I coated them liberally with Scotch Guard?

What's the downside to my making these slippers into my boots?

While you can waterproof the fabric, you may not be able to waterproof the soles, especially where the uppers and soles attach.

Reading the Wikipedia article about Scotch-gard it appears that they have changed the formula.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotchgard
The downside being that the newer formulation lasts for a shorter time.

PFBS has a much shorter half-life in people than PFOS (a little over one month vs. 5.4 years)

You might want to consider the Scotch-gard Outdoor Silicone treatment that probably has a different formuation.

The only other consideraton is whether they have enough support for your foot but then you are not going to hike the Yukon in them. And the look a lot better than Crocs.

Those look amazing. They don't look at all like slippers.

The only thing outside of what other have said is that the soles might not last as long outside as they would inside, but outside of that and the waterproofing, I can't see any reason not to wear them outside. The look lovely to me as boots, and the fact they are comfy is fantastic!

Does the sole offer any sort of traction? Sometimes with "slippers" like that the sole is just smooth as silk, which for me would mean falling onto my ass as soon as I misstepped on a slick piece of pavement. Other times they offer plenty of traction for city walking like you would be doing. But that would be my only concern past waterproofing.

I'm pretty sure if you didn't tell anyone they were slippers no one would ever know. Enjoy the new boots!

That was my worry, whether the soles were going to wear out on you in a hot minute. Those look good.

I think they would look cute on you! As long as they're not too slippery.
