Finish off the bits... mode
Dec. 1st, 2015 12:34 pmI just went into the kitchen to find something for lunch and ended up with a cucumber sandwich. I used up the last of the cuke and the last of the bread and had a side of the rest of the cheeze crackers.
I've been doing that a lot lately. Making meals using the last bits of this and that. It's very satisfying.
I've been buying food and cooking for one since forever. It's not easy. I like leftovers but too much of a good thing...
For several years, I had a chef who would come in once a month or once every couple of weeks and make a lot of meals that I would freeze and eat until she (or he) came back to make more. This was mostly wonderful. I did not buy a lot of stuff I did not need. And I had good stuff to eat consistently. But, again, too much of a good thing...
I truly don't love grocery shopping so when I go, I tend to stock up on stuff so I don't have to go again soon. But I think I've gotten over that. There are groceries that are easily accessible from the gym so I can pop in every day if I want and get what I need. So a lot of the hoarding tendencies have calmed down.
My fridge, is looking very much more in control as is my freezer. I still have a couple of cupboard shelves that have really old stuff that needs a toss.
That might be an excellent project for this afternoon as a matter of fact.

Date: 2015-12-01 10:35 pm (UTC)One project I did over the long weekend was to go through my pantry. I couldn't believe all the stuff I found that wasn't any good! lol

Oh, you know those premade mashed potatoes? Well, I get those and open up the container and mix it with lots of grated cheese and then spoon it into individual dishes I can either bake right away or freeze then bake later. Cheesey potatoes = yum.
I broil a little steak or pork chop and eat it with potatoes like that or a baked potato. Or I take a chicken thigh and slip a pat of butter under the skin and sprinkle salt and pepper on it and bake it along with the potatoes. I like Stouffers baked lasagna. And random sausages with Kraft Mac and Cheese.
I do NOT care anything about healthy eating (obviously) and I'm not too interested in eating veggies plus they are too much trouble. But, once in a while, I'll sautee some green beans or mushrooms. Oh and yes, chili!
